The American University of Bahrain is an American-style institution of higher education located on a brand-new 75,000 sqm campus in Riffa, the Kingdom of Bahrain. The campus is part of a larger complex of educational institutions co-located in the center of the island. AUBH opened its doors this past September and launched five programs in the three Colleges of Business & Management, Engineering, and Architecture & Design. 

To support the general education requirements of these programs, we are hiring five new Assistant/Associate professors of Liberal Arts, including the areas of Psychology, Sociology, Math, Biology, and Physics - and four new Assistant/Associate professors of Multimedia Design (2), Architecture, and Computer Science.

Typical duties for these positions include teaching 9-12 hours per semester; service to the University through committee work, participating in positions of leadership, and/or sponsorship of student organizations; staying active in the pursuit of scholarly activity; and advising students both in pursuit of their degrees and in future career options. This is a 12-month appointment scheduled to begin in Fall 2020 but can start as early as Spring 2020.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Ideal candidates will have a terminal degree from a U.S.-accredited institution.

Psychology: The ideal candidate will have training and research interests that cross multiple domains within the field of psychology. A background in cognitive and/or developmental psychology is desirable although other specializations will also be considered.

Sociology: The Department of Arts & Sciences at the American University of Bahrain seeks a qualified teaching adjunct to teach Introductory Sociology for Spring term 2020. The ideal candidate will have training and research interests that cross multiple domains within the field of Sociology. A background in Middle Eastern culture or the culture of business entrepreneurship is desirable, although other specializations will also be considered. The minimum requirement is an M.A. in Sociology (doctoral-level training preferred) and fluency in English.  Experience with American-style education is desirable.

Math: The ideal candidate will have training and research interests that cross multiple domains within the field of math. A background in applied math for engineering or for AI modelling is desirable, although other specializations will also be considered.

Biology: The ideal candidate will have training and research interests that cross multiple domains within the field of Biology. A background in bio-engineering or heath science is desirable, although other specializations will also be considered.

Physics: The ideal candidate will have training and research interests that cross multiple domains within the field of Physics. An interest in applied Engineering is desirable, although other interest areas will also be considered.

Visual Communication: The ideal candidate will have expertise in the area of visual communications.  Candidates will also teach communication-related courses in Multimedia Design and in the Design Core.  A terminal degree in Design or a related area is required along with some professional experience. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: graphic design, typography, illustration, storytelling, and photography along with the ability to teach foundation design studio and drawing courses. The ability to work with members of the design team to plan and implement further programs/courses is also beneficial.

Video and Animation: The ideal candidate will have expertise in the area of video production and motion graphics. Candidates will also teach communication related courses in Multimedia Design and in the Design Core. A terminal degree in Design or a related area is required along with some professional experience. Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: storytelling, video production, video editing, audio production, and motion graphics. The ability to work with members of the design team to plan and implement further programs/courses is also beneficial.

Architecture: The ideal candidate will have expertise in some area of architecture including integration of data and technology into the design and construction of built environments - buildings, cities, landscapes. Teaching responsibilities will include studio and seminar or lecture courses. A terminal degree in Architecture is required along with some professional experience.

Computer Science: The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software engineering and testing, computer architecture and programming languages, operating systems, computer networks, and cryptography. The candidate is also expected to have a broard training in Web and Mobile applications design and development, large scale data analysis, and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate is expected to teach related computer and information sciences courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to the supervision of student projects. A Ph.D. or a terminal degree in computer science or computer science engineering is required. Professional experience is preferred.
