One World, Diverse Nations: The Inaugural AUBH International Day 2022 Draws Thousands of Visitors

20 countries, 18 food and beverage outlets, 16 live performances

(Riffa, Bahrain) – On Saturday, March 26, the American University of Bahrain (AUBH) hosted its inaugural edition of the AUBH International Day 2022 on its state-of-the-art campus, under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, who deputized Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council to attend the event on his behalf. The community-wide event celebrated “One World, Diverse Nations” and highlighted two of the University’s values: diversity and inclusivity. Nearly 2,000 visitors, 20 participating countries, 18 international food and beverage outlets, and 16 live performances, AUBH International Day has captured the attention of spectators from all around the Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.

The one-day event included an opening ceremony with speeches from Dr. Susan E. Saxton, AUBH Founding President and Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa, who in her speech, highlighted that education is at the forefront of cultural change, tolerance, and collaboration. AUBH International Day provides an engaging educational platform through the discovery and experience of unique cultures through gastronomy, music, language, and art.

The event included several activities and entertainment such as a traditional costume parade led by the Ministry of Interior Police Band; ongoing performances; traditional games; a photo booth; and themed activities for young children. Guests included ambassadors; C-suite executives; leadership from local schools and universities, industry leaders; Bahrain and Saudi social media influencers; several public figures; families; and guests who came from Saudi Arabia to attend the event.

Dr. Susan E. Saxton, AUBH’s Founding President stated, “We are honored by the Patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and the presence of Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa for the opening ceremony. We are humbled to have had the population of Bahrain come together and make this event a tremendous success. We would like to thank the embassies, sponsors, vendors, and our dynamic and diverse AUBH Student body for the role they played in making this event a success. I’m so proud the AUBH Students who worked very hard to showcase their heritage, and underscored His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s recognition of youth on Bahrain Youth Day.”
