He previously served as General Attorney for Saudi Aramco and as General Counsel to the Ministry of Petroleum, where he advised on energy and OPEC matters, including Saudi Arabia’s accession to the WTO and the implementation of the Natural Gas Initiative. He also advised the Chairman of Saudi Aramco’s Board and served as Secretary of Aramco Gulf Operations Company and Aramco Overseas Company.
Dr. Saud has represented Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in major sovereign cases before courts in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada. He chaired OPEC’s Legal Defence Team in landmark antitrust and sovereign immunity lawsuits in the U.S. and has advised as external counsel the Saudi Royal Court, the Shura Council, and the Crown Prince Court of Bahrain.
A founding member of the Islamic Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School, he also serves on the boards of Princess Nourah, Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University law schools and Harvard Alumni of Saudi Arabia. He is currently serving a second term on the Board of Directors of the Saudi Commercial Arbitration Center, an appointment by Royal Order. Dr. Saud was awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal (First Order) for national contributions.
